John Pomp Studios
“The intertwining of the four classical elements—fire, water, earth and air—is a constant source of inspiration to the design and philosophies of John Pomp. Be it a ripple on the ocean or the swelling of a bubble, his sculptural pieces mimic the wondrous geometry that exists, often unnoticed, in the natural world.”

INDUSTRIAL Designer 1
As an INDUSTRIAL Designer at John Pomp Studios, I worked with a product development team on designing new collections of boutique, sculptural furniture and lighting.
as a product development designer, i began this process at a broad creative ideation phase, EXPLORING concepts through sketching, doing RESEARCH and material studies, and iterating on product concepts through different self-generated EXERCISES
our team’s comprehensive DESIGN process also included more detailed orthographic drawing / rendering, hand-modeling at reduced and full scale, parametric 3D CAD Modeling, 3D printing, material experiments / samples, full-prototyping, production engineering, and more.
ABove: Snapshots of my work on the Drift Lighting System, showing examples of product development through drawing, modeling, iterative EXERCISES, critique/feedback, and prototyping
Under guidance from our Art Directors, we refined and fully realized our concepts. This involved full-scale test modeling, then prototyping whole collections at full fidelity.
a few models i made, compared to the final prototypes:
Once we had produced final prototypes, we developed different configurations our clients could choose from, and finalized the COLLECTIONs. in overseeing production and rolling out the collections, we worked closely with all departments, from innovative engineers passionate craftspeople, to sales specialists and brand REPRESENTATIVES / galleries nationwide.
more from collections our team developed:

DRIFT LIGHTING SYSTEM
MODULAR LIGHTING SYSTEM COMPOSED OF UNITS VARYING IN SCALE AND SHAPE, THAT CAN BE COMBINED TOGETHER TO MAKE CUSTOM FIXTURES tailored to client’s needs

CALDERA COLLECTION
SCULPTURAL TABLES WHOSE FORM MIMIC THEIR NAMESAKE: large, cauldron-like hollowS that form after the emptying of a magma chamber in a volcanic eruption

additional project explorations:

This full immersion into an end-to-end product development process was a uniquely enriching experience. This work vastly expanded my commercial industrial design experience and overall ARTISTIC ambitions. my gratitude for having worked with so many creative, skilled people at this studio is IMMEASURABLE, and i learned so much from them.
my role also grew to include
primary Media artist for the studio
I was tasked with producing photo and video content for the studio’s website, marketing platforms, and press releases.
One of the most important platforms for bringing in business is the Instagram feed, which i managed day-to-day:
But the majority of my time working i this capacity consisted of producing content:
Product photography, image compositing, videography,
and all manner of self-directed documentary work the daily roles of the skilled artists and craftspeople spanning glassblowing, coldworking, welding/metalwork, patination, assembly, and more.
some examples of this work can be seen on two of my “Media Arts” webpages:
